The Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris (MAM) is showing the first retrospective of Gabriele Münter’s work in France. Often associated with Kandinsky, her companion during her Munich years (1903-1914), Münter was an innovative artist in her own right, establishing herself in a male-dominated art world. She was the cofounder of the Munich-based Blaue Reiter (Blue Rider) circle, and one of the most outstanding women exponents of German Expressionism. She began her career in Paris, exhibiting for the first time in 1907.
